A Hot and Tired Gabby Hartnett
Gabby Hartnett can barely think as he walks the front of the dugout carrying a towel. Ever been in Chicago in August? The humidity is 110%. And this photo is so hot and humid that you can burn your hands wringing it out. Behind him sits an exhausted Dizzy Dean who has just been removed from the game in the sixth inning. Apparently Dean pitched well enough, but the defense let him down. It's written all over his face. Thermal inversion or not, the Cubbies should have been used to it, and so should have the Pittsburgh Pirates, who won on this August 30th scorcher In Wrigley Field 5 to 2.This photograph sure tells a story.
