Chevrolet Baseball Club

Chevy-Plant-Baseball-Club6.jpg

Just look at these guys. Are they on top of the world, or what? I would wager that this team, the pride of the Chevrolet Automobile Company, had an annual budget bigger than the St. Louis Browns. Well healed, well outfitted, and well-positioned to show off the beautiful roadster that was likely constructed in the plant in the background.Factory Leagues were both popular for the people and part of organizational public relations for industry. Having a strong nine to represent your company could be important publicity and a sign of business acumen. This Chevrolet plant team probably competed with a number of other manufacturers in the region of the upper Mid-West.The photo is a silver print, and the mount, as well as the uniforms would place the image in the mid-1920s. From baseball sporting goods catalog descriptions from this time period, I would think they are wearing dark blue uniforms with white pinstripes, behind the unmistakable chevrolet logo. Too bad this photo is not in color. Fun and elaborate photos like this one took some money to produce, and the format would indicate the image was of some importance. To complete the circle, the image probably hung in the factory, for which the group played.
