Double X - Jimmy Foxx

Double X - Jimmy Foxx was a strong man.  He was a slugger.  Yet, no photo has ever spoken of his strength more to me than this shot of him in 1932.  The news photograph is from July 26 when Foxx had already recorded 40 home runs.  The Acme Newspictures paper caption speculates about Foxx’s threat to Babe Ruth’s record of 60 homers, since the season had two months to go.  In addition, they admired the size of his “massive arms.”As it turned out, he did not reach 60 home runs, only 58.  In addition, he drove in 169 runs, scored 151, and batted .364.
