Happy May Day and a Dance Around a May Pole

MayDayMaypole6.jpg

This turn of the century photograph captures an historic May Day ritual of a dance around the May Pole.  From time medieval and, as some historians believe, with pagan origins, many from Germany, across Europe, up into Scandanavia and even into North America remember dancing around a May Pole in their youth.  It has been posed that the Maypole Dance is a form of fertility ritual.  Well with the orchards throughout the Okanagan Valley full of blossoms and tulips and daffodils vying for attention, I can well believe it.
