Nebraska Indians - Baseball Team

Nebraska-Indians-In-NYC6.jpg

From what I can tell, there are actually eight Indians amongst the eleven baseball players posing at 314 Second Street in New York City.  The team was the Nebraska Indians, and they were barnstorming around the United States in the later years of the 19th Century.  Headquartered in Lincoln, Nebraska, the Nebraska Indians toured successfully for many years with mixtures of native and non-native blood. The Kern Brothers produced "Instantaneous Portraits", and this may have been but a quick job for the photographer.  But this is the second team photo of the Indians taken by Kern, with this one being the later of the two.  The players do not match in the two cabinet cards, and the first of the two was taken outside where the teams tents were pitched in the background.
