Where Hope Lives for the Hopeless Boston Braves
It’s 1927 spring training for the hopeless Boston Braves, and hope is in the air. You can’t lose a pennant in March, the players tell one another, as they do some grounds keeping with the batboy. Chances are you have never heard of any of the three clowning trainees here. That’s Joe Genewich in the wheelbarrow, Frank Gibson holds the shovel and Larry Benton is the chauffeur. (I take it back you should have heard of Larry Benton – he won 127 games in his career.) And these Braves? – they didn’t finish in the cellar, but one step above in 7thplace.
