Baseball in Action Photography – Pure Beauty

11.-BEAUTY1.jpg

This baseball in action photo is pure aesthetics.  No one famous, no critical moment, no historical reference, no statistic generated, and look, no one in the stands, either. But check out the dust billowing out of the first baseman's glove.  You can hear the pop of the glove that came just before.  The body of the sliding Joe Kuhel perfectly avoids the tag and frames the composition perfectly.  An Acme Agency photographer captured this momentary choreography on May 6, 1940 in Philadelphia's Shibe Park.  The other participant in the pas-de-deux was Athletics' first baseman Dick Siebert.
