Joe Jackson in His Indians Uniform Looking On

15.-JACKSON-JOE-1913-ACTION.jpg

A game in Cleveland in 1913 is in progress with Joe Jackson, standing far left, watching the play in his Indians uniform, while teammate Roy Chapman slides home safely.  Wearing the White Sox blue uniform is catcher Ray Schalk, awaiting the throw.  Umpire Billy Evans strolls calmly behind the scene, the outcome of this scoring chance already determined, there is a lot of “fate” floating within this image.  Ray Chapman was killed by a beanball in 1920.  Joe Jackson and Schalk were both playing in the 1919 World Series, where Schalk ended up OK, and Joe Jackson ended up.  Happier though, would have been Billy Evans, who avoided scandal through his career, and was elected to the Hall of Fame.
