The Boys from San Angelo

SanAngeloIntegratedTeam6.jpg

Here's one of those unusual integrated teams featuring the boys from the Club in San Angelo, Texas, and the writing on the back of the card claims they were in the West Texas League. San Angelo did have teams in that league in both 1928 and 1929.  But, think about it. How could three black players, as we see here, possibly compete in a pro league in Texas in the 1920s. Impossible! Looking carefully at these hard-bitten characters, they do not appear to be very young. Were these really minor leaguers on the rise in the 1920s? I don’t think so.
