The words and quotes of Yogi Berra

Given the sheer volume of wacky, offbeat and downright unintelligible statement than have been uttered by Yogi, one wonders how he ever found time to play ball?!  Here are some Yogi-isms that haven’t yet made it into the vernacular:“You’ve got be careful if you don’t know where you are going, because you might not get there.”I’d rather be the Yankees’ catcher than the president, and that make me pretty lucky because I could never be the president.”“Slump? I ain’t in no slump. I just ain’t hitting.”“I want to thank you for making this day necessary.”“If people don’t want to come out to the park, nobody’s going to stop them.”“A nickel ain’t worth a dime anymore.”“He must have made that (movie) before he died.”“The other teams could make trouble for us if they win.”“We made too many wrong mistakes.”“If you can’t imitate him, don’t copy him.”Last night at a dinner party with some Canadian friends, they asked me why Yogi Berra’s death was so newsworthy. (Their national pastime is Hockey eh!) So after giving a brief synopsis of why we love Yogi so much, I shared my favourite quotes, “If you come to a fork in the road, take it.” and “You can observe a lot by watching.” Needless to say they got the picture. Yogisms make sense, or not, to more than just his baseball fans. Some think it is probable that a good number of the words attributed to him were simply fabricated by the Press, however I like to think that these are his original spontaneous creations. Here's too you Yogi!Yogi Berra in the Dugout
