Your Smiling Face…Is that Henrick Ibsen lurking in the background of this carte-de-visite photograph?  Did he set up this scene in Silkeborg, Denmark?  If he did, I’m sure the dialogue would go something like this:

Helga: I told you not to loosen your head, and I was serious.

Head: You mean now, in the middle of winter?

Helga:  That’s right, and why are you smiling?  It’s dark and cold every day.

Head:  I wanted to be free, to escape this life of endless boredom.

Helga: You must have lost your mind, and the doctor can confirm it when he gets here.

Head:  You always told me I have to face myself, and now I have no choice.

What dialogue do you imagine this lovely lady is having with herself?
