1822 New Universal World Atlas

1822 New Universal World AtlasWe are posting a number of wonderful maps from a world atlas published in 1822.  The atlas is entitled The New Universal Atlas of the World, by Jedidiah Morse and his brother, and was published in New Haven, Connecticut.  Mostly concerned with North America and Europe, the atlas is pictorially interesting because of the use of color in designating land masses.  The nations of much of the world have different names, but by 1822 the art of cartography had advanced so that the continents and oceans look much like today.
