Ty Cobb in Cuba

TYCOBBINCUBA6.jpg

Yes, that's Ty Cobb in Cuba. He's unmistakable. That was my first thought when I saw these photo cards in Havana some years back. The postcard seller did not know who the player was in the two images, which came together, because there was nothing written on the backs. But for me the profile was certain.  It was late in the year of 1910 and the Tigers played a series of games in Cuba's capital, a series where José Mendez opened eyes all over the baseball world by shutting out the Tigers and stifling Cobb. The scene at Almendares Park in the horizontal card is tropical. There's something very appealing about a ballpark surrounded by palm trees.  But in that action photo the best thing is Cobb’s classic swing in such an unusual location.TyCobbBattingCuba6Please share your comments below or share this blog with your friends on Facebook, Linkedin or Twitter.Looking for the perfect picture for your next project?
